How many toilets does OSHA require on a construction site?
OSHA rule 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1 sets the legal minimum: 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. Above 200 workers it is 1 per 50. We recommend about 1 standard unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week, because the minimum fills fast.
| Workers on site | OSHA legal minimum (Table D-1) | Our pick: weekly service | Our pick: twice-weekly service |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | 1 toilet | 1 standard unit | 1 standard unit |
| 11–20 | 1 toilet | 2 standard units | 1 standard unit |
| 21–40 | 1 toilet seat + 1 urinal | 3–4 units | 2 units |
| 41–80 | 2 seats + 2 urinals | 5–8 units | 3–4 units |
| 81–120 | 3 seats + 3 urinals | 9–12 units | 5–6 units |
| 200 | 4 seats + 4 urinals (1 per 50 at 200+) | 20 units | 10 units |

Should a job site get a sink unit or a hand wash station?
A standard unit with a built-in sink costs $175 per 28 days and suits crews under about 10. A 2-sink hand wash station costs $110 per 28 days and holds about 36 gallons, enough for roughly 400 washes. Pick the station when crews eat lunch on site, paint, or pour concrete.
| Standard with built-in sink | Hand wash station (2 sinks) | |
|---|---|---|
| 28-day price | $175 per unit | $110 per station |
| Fresh water | About 26 gallons | About 36 gallons, about 400 washes |
| Where people wash | Inside the unit, one at a time | Outside, two at a time |
| Best for | Crews under about 10, one-unit lots | Crews of 20+, lunch on site, painters, concrete |
| Footprint | Same as a standard: about 44 × 47 in | About 40 × 30 in |

How do home builders rent toilets for several lots at once?
Home builders can book every lot in one call. Send the address or lot number for each house, and we price each address by its delivery zone at $45, $75 or $95. Each unit runs on its own 28-day cycle, so a house that closes early stops billing the day you call.
- Send the lot listText or email each address, the start date and the crew size per house.
- Get a per-lot quoteYou get one sheet with each lot, its zone fee, the unit and the 28-day price. Tax is the only add-on.
- Mark the spot on each lotPaint a dot or set a flag. We will place it there and text a photo.
- Weekly service rides one routeYour lots go on the same service day, so supers know when the truck comes.
- Move or pick up as houses finishCall when a lot is done. We pick up within 1 business day, or quote a move to your next lot before we do it.
Where should the porta potty go on a home lot?
The best spot is firm, level ground within about 50 feet of where our truck can park, usually near the driveway cut. Keep the unit at least a few feet off the curb, out of the path of concrete and lumber trucks, with the door facing the lot instead of the street.
- On the lot, not in the street. Street or right-of-way placement needs city approval.
- Near the drive approach so the service truck does not cross mud.
- Out of the swing path of forklifts, pump trucks and dumpsters.
- Door facing the house, not the neighbors.
- Staked or strapped on open lots during spring storm season.
- Easy to reach for the crew: under about 200 feet from the work.

Long jobs run on the same cycle explained in how 28-day porta potty billing works.
How often should job site toilets be serviced in summer?
From June through September, North Texas highs run in the upper 90s and often pass 100°F. Heat speeds up odor, and a 60-gallon tank holds about 200 uses between visits. On sites with more than 10 workers, we suggest twice-weekly service for $60 more per unit each 28-day cycle.

Can one porta potty cover my whole framing crew?
One standard unit with weekly service covers about 8 to 10 workers on a 40-hour week. A framing crew of 15 needs 2 units, or 1 unit with twice-weekly service.
Do I need a toilet on every house in a subdivision?
OSHA counts workers, not houses. Many builders put 1 unit per lot under construction so crews do not walk the street. Neighbor lots can share a unit if the walk is short.
Will you move the unit to the next lot when we finish?
Yes. Call or text the new address. We quote the move before we do it and try to fit it on your normal service day.
Does the rental stop when the house closes?
Billing stops the day you call or text for pickup. We pick up within 1 business day, so call when the final clean is done.
Can you bill our company instead of charging a card?
Yes. Builders and contractors can apply for invoice billing on Net 15 terms. Until it is approved, a card at booking locks in the price.
What happens if the unit gets knocked over on site?
Call us and we come clean it up. Tip-overs caused by misuse, such as a machine or a prank, are billed at cleanup cost with a $150 minimum.
Do my painters need a hand wash station?
OSHA 1926.51(f) calls for washing facilities when crews apply paint, coatings or other harmful materials. A 2-sink station is $110 per 28 days.
