Restroom trailer vs porta potty: which is right for a wedding?
A restroom trailer suits weddings over about 75 guests with formal dress and a long reception. Porta potties suit smaller, casual or budget-first weddings, and sites with no power or soft ground. For 150 guests, deluxe porta potties start near $1,345 and a 3-stall trailer setup near $1,465, before tax.
| If this is true | Lean toward |
|---|---|
| Under 75 guests, casual, budget first | Standard or deluxe porta potties |
| 75+ guests, formal dress, long reception | Restroom trailer |
| No 110-volt outlet within 100 ft | Deluxe units, or a trailer with our generator for a fee |
| Soft or sloped lawn, no 10-ft truck path | Porta potties placed by hand truck |
| Guests in wheelchairs or walkers | Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit either way |
| Wedding is under 3 months out | Porta potties; trailers book 8–12 months ahead |
| Very small wedding, VIP feel | VIP luxury cabin |
How much more does a restroom trailer cost than porta potties?
A 2-stall restroom trailer starts at $895 for a weekend. A 3-stall starts at $1,195 and a 4-stall at $1,495. A standard porta potty starts at $165 and a deluxe flushing unit at $245. For a 150-guest wedding, the gap between deluxe units and a 3-stall trailer is about $120.
| Setup for 150 guests, 6 hours, bar served | Units | Starting price before tax |
|---|---|---|
| Deluxe flushing units | 4 deluxe + 1 wheelchair-accessible + 1 hand wash station | $980 + $225 + $95 + $45 delivery = $1,345 |
| Standard units | 4 standard + 1 wheelchair-accessible + 1 hand wash station | $660 + $225 + $95 + $45 delivery = $1,025 |
| 3-stall restroom trailer + 1 accessible unit | Trailer + 1 wheelchair-accessible unit | $1,195 + $225 + $45 delivery = $1,465 |
| 4-stall restroom trailer + 1 accessible unit | Trailer + 1 wheelchair-accessible unit | $1,495 + $225 + $45 delivery = $1,765 |

How many guests decide between a trailer and porta potties?
Use guests × hours ÷ 250 to count porta potties. A 150-guest, 6-hour wedding is 900 ÷ 250 = 3.6, so 4 units, plus 1 for the bar = 5. Once you need 4 or more units, a trailer often costs about the same and guests like it more. Under 75 guests, porta potties usually win on price.
| Guests | Hours | Units (with bar) | Typical pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 5 | 1 + 1 = 2 | 2 deluxe units, or a VIP cabin |
| 100 | 5 | 2 + 1 = 3 | 3 deluxe units or a 2-stall trailer |
| 150 | 6 | 4 + 1 = 5 | 3-stall trailer + 1 accessible unit |
| 250 | 6 | 6 + 2 = 8 | 4-stall trailer + standard units, or a larger trailer (quote) |

What power, water and ground does a restroom trailer need?
A restroom trailer needs a standard 110-volt, 20-amp outlet within 100 feet and a garden hose within 100 feet, or its onboard fresh tank. The ground must be level within about 2 inches, with a straight truck path about 10 feet wide. Porta potties need none of that: just level, firm ground.
Trailer site needs
- Power
- 110-volt, 20-amp outlet within 100 ft, or our quiet generator for a fee
- Water
- Garden hose within 100 ft, or onboard fresh tank
- Level
- Within about 2 inches
- Access
- Straight truck path about 10 ft wide
- Lawn
- Grass is fine when dry

Which is better for formal dress, heels and older guests?
A restroom trailer is better for gowns and suits: it has climate control, running-water sinks, mirrors and lights. But its stalls sit up a few steps. Guests in wheelchairs or walkers need a ground-level, wheelchair-accessible unit with a 60-inch turning space. Plan 1 accessible unit beside the trailer.
| Need | Restroom trailer | Porta potty |
|---|---|---|
| Heels on grass | Firm steps, indoor floor | Ground-level, but grass up to the door |
| Gowns and suits | Room to turn, mirror, AC | Tight 44-inch-wide cabin |
| Running water | Yes | Deluxe and sink units only (foot pump) |
| Wheelchair or walker | Steps; not usable unless ADA trailer (quote) | Wheelchair-accessible unit, built to ADA dimensions |
Sizing rule for groups of units: at least 5% wheelchair-accessible, minimum 1 when 2 or more are grouped (2010 ADA Standards §213.2). See our wheelchair-accessible unit.
Can I mix a restroom trailer with porta potties?
Yes, and many weddings should. The most common mixed setup is 1 restroom trailer for guests plus 1 wheelchair-accessible unit beside it. Large weddings add 1 or 2 standard units near the dance floor or for vendors and staff. One delivery fee covers the whole order to one address.
- Trailer + 1 wheelchair-accessible unit: the default for 100–200 guests.
- Trailer + 2 standard units for the band, caterers and parking crew.
- Deluxe units + a hand wash station when there is no power.
- A VIP luxury cabin for the bridal party tent.
When should I book a restroom trailer for my wedding?
Book a restroom trailer 8 to 12 months before the wedding. Trailer weekends in May, June, September and October fill first, and each trailer can only serve one wedding per weekend. Porta potties can be booked 2 to 4 weeks out. Spring and fall Saturdays go first.
| Months out | Do this |
|---|---|
| 8–12 | Pick trailer or porta potties; reserve a trailer |
| 3–6 | Walk the site: outlet, hose, level spot, truck path |
| 1 | Confirm guest count, bar, accessible unit and vendors |
| 1 week | Send the venue map and a photo of the spot |
| Thursday or Friday | We deliver; Monday we pick up |

Trailer or porta potty questions
Straight answers from the dispatch desk. Not covered here? Call (469) 326-5635.
Is a restroom trailer worth it for 100 guests?
Often, yes. 100 guests over 5 hours with a bar needs about 3 units. A 2-stall trailer at $895 is close to 3 deluxe units at $735, and guests notice the difference.
Can a restroom trailer go in a backyard?
Only with a straight path about 10 feet wide, ground level within about 2 inches, and power and a hose within 100 feet. Many backyards fit deluxe units better.
Do wedding guests mind porta potties?
Deluxe flushing units with a sink and mirror get few complaints at casual weddings. Formal evening weddings usually do better with a trailer.
Does a restroom trailer have a wheelchair-accessible stall?
Our 2- to 4-stall trailers have steps. Add a wheelchair-accessible unit beside it, or ask for an ADA trailer quote.
Who keeps the trailer stocked during the reception?
The trailer arrives stocked. For long receptions, ask your venue coordinator or a staff member to check paper and soap once mid-event.
